CVPA Return to Play Update

May 13th, 2020
CVPA President’s Message:

Your CVPA Board of Directors, in conjunction with our local municipalities and our governing pickleball bodies, have been working very hard to organize safe return to play during these challenging times of Covid-19. We will be following BC Provincial Health guidelines and we expect all members to do the same.

We ask you all to please be patient as this is new to all of us and it may take awhile to get things ironed out. There are a lot of unknowns and there will be a learning curve for all of us that choose to continue playing.

With the Provincial Health Guidelines, Pickleball BC and Pickleball Canada and our insurance requirements at the forefront, the following are our recommendations for safe play. These guidelines have been submitted to our local government authorities for play start up. These precautions will remain in place until further notice of change in government confinement measures.

Protocol for Safe Play:
* If you are not feeling well, do not come out to play. Stay home if you are sick or have come in contact with someone who is sick.
* Maintain social distancing.
* Maximum 4 players on one specific court for a maximum of 1 hour. Try to partner only with members in your household (ie your spouse/partner). Play with the same four players for that 1 hour session. Players may change partners amongst their 4 designated players if they desire.
* Each player brings his/her own disinfectant wipes and/or sanitizer. Sanitize your hands after setting up nets.
* Each player has his/her own ball with your name on it. Use your own ball when it is your serve, then next server uses their own ball. Do not touch other person’s ball with your hand. Use your paddle or kick ball to the owner.
* No sharing of equipment…no chairs, no use of benches. When you are done playing in your allotted time, please vacate the courts immediately. No loitering.
* Sanitize your paddle frequently and after your playing session.
* No paddle taps. Sanitize the gate if someone touches it.
Rotary Highland Courts: When entering/exiting your court, use gate closest to the specific court. Keep social distancing. There may be players watching from the parking lot or road to see if a court becomes open, so move out of the court area quickly.
* If a player has already played once during the day, let the first time players get the first available courts.

Suggested Play Times at Rotary Highland Courts:

All 6 courts will be utilized as there is separation fencing.

Play is “on the clock hour” at these play times. ie if you arrive at a court at 9:15 am, you can play until 10:00 am and then the next group comes on. Other than the times above, play is open for an hour from the time you start playing.

If you arrive and the courts are full, you will have to wait in the parking lot area for the next available court.

Other times are open and subject to CVPA Playing Guidelines ie. 1 hour, own ball, sanitizer, etc.

Martin Park:
Begins on May 15, 2020, 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:00 am to 11:00 am

As at the time of this publication, it is unknown when Lewis Practice Court (1 court only) or the indoor courts will open. As soon as we know this information will be posted on the CVPA website and FB page.

Pickleballs can be purchased online or from one of our local suppliers. Phil, from Pickleball Haven will try to make himself available at Rotary Highland Courts to sell pickleballs during the first few days of play. Contact information at the bottom of page.

Thank you all in advance for your much appreciated cooperation. Let’s work together on this “new normal” and be friendly to your fellow pickleballers. Let’s have fun and stay safe.

President
